Care & Maintenance

Leather boots maintenance is crucial for maximizing their longevity. Discover some quick tips for proper care!

Regular Maintenance and Care for Leather Boots:

To extend the lifespan of your boots, consistent upkeep is essential. Treat your boots one day prior to wearing them, allowing the maintenance product to deeply penetrate the leather. The frequency of care depends on how frequently the boots are worn.

Follow the step-by-step guide below for optimal leather boot maintenance.

  1. Clean the boots with a soft brush, cloth, or sponge. Avoid using a hard brush that could harm the leather. You may use a mild soapy water (we use green soap or saddle soap) or white vinegar solution. Ensure the boots are clean and dry before proceeding. They are usually dry after 10 minutes.
  2. Treat the leather, including the leather sole, with a liquid or cream leather conditioner.  You can use transparant cream or a colour that is the same as your boots.  Apply the conditioner using a soft cloth or sponge, gently rubbing it in for optimal results. Allow the conditioner to fully absorb for a day. Remove any excess conditioner with a cloth the following day. To add extra shine you can buff the boots with a shine brush or nylon stockings.
  3. Protect your boots from dirt and moisture by using an impregnating spray. Make sure to use it on a small spot on your boots to see if any discoloration accure.
  4. Clean the inside of the boots with an antibacterial spray.
  5. If your leather boots has a zipper, you can maintain the zipper's smoothness and cleanliness, by using a zipper spray.

You can use boot shapers or paper to prevent sagging or creasing. Boot shapers maintain the shape of the boots and absorb excess moisture.

Daily Maintenance After Activities:

Here are some tips for daily maintenance that contribute to prolonging the lifespan of your boots.

  1. Use a soft brush to remove excess dirt after outdoor activities. Avoid using a hard brush that can damage the leather. Pay attention to the edges near the sole, as dirt can accumulate and potentially harm the leather or stitches. A small brush, such as an old toothbrush, can be effective in cleaning this area.
  2. Wipe the boots with a clean, damp cloth to remove dirt and mud. Make sure the cloth is damp and not soaking wet!
  3. If your boots become wet, allow them to dry at room temperature. Avoid placing leather boots near heat sources, this can dry the leather out. Remove the insoles and stuff the boots with paper to absorb the moisture.
