TakeRoot, Boots and a weekend in Groningen
If you’re travelling to Groningen for TakeRoot this November, don’t make it a one-night trip.
Groningen is home for us. It’s where Dandelie grew, where our fitting room is, and where so many of our ideas begin. So if TakeRoot is bringing you all the way north, stay a little longer.
Here’s how we’d spend the weekend.
Friday: arrive & settle in
If you can, come on Friday. Drop your bags, wander through the city centre and give yourself a little time to get to know Groningen before the festival.
For somewhere special to stay, we love the feeling of Prinsenhof, while Hotel Miss Blanche is perfect if you want something characterful near the canals. The Market Hotel is another easy option right on the Grote Markt, within walking distance of almost everything.
Come visit the Dandelie fitting room
And of course, if you’re already in Groningen, come see us.
Our fitting room is at the Dandelie office and is open by appointment. It’s the best way to properly explore the collection, compare different styles and sizes and find the pair that feels right.
If you’re staying for a few days around TakeRoot, send us a message beforehand and we’ll arrange a private appointment.
Also, make Friday the slow evening.
For something a little more special, try The Better Times. Or simply find somewhere cosy in the centre, have dinner and take a walk through the Grote Markt and along the canals afterwards.
November Groningen is especially nice when it’s cold outside and everything inside feels warm.
Saturday: explore before TakeRoot
Start with a slow breakfast.
Pernikkel is lovely for breakfast or lunch, and if you’re in the mood for something sweeter, Blue Bananas Pancake Café is always an option.
Afterwards, head towards Forum Groningen. Even if you don’t have a specific exhibition in mind, it’s worth going up for the view over the city.
Then give yourself some time to wander. Walk through the historic centre, find one of Groningen’s hidden hofjes, stop by the Prinsentuin or spend an hour vintage shopping.
We already have a separate guide to our favourite vintage stores in Groningen, so if that sounds like your kind of afternoon, have a little look before you come.
Then it’s TakeRoot time
By mid-afternoon, head towards De Oosterpoort. And somewhere between the performances, come find our little Dandelie corner.
We’re creating a tiny vintage Western store inside the festival, filled with rugs, mirrors, warm lighting, flowers, vintage details and, naturally, a lot of boots. You’ll be able to browse the collection, try on different pairs and meet Isa, Jeanne and the rest of the Dandelie team.
Sunday: keep it slow
After TakeRoot, we wouldn’t plan too much.
Sleep in, find coffee and get brunch.
If you still feel like exploring, visit the Groninger Museum, head back to Forum Groningen or take one last walk around the city centre.
And if you want somewhere relaxed for food or drinks before heading home, De Uurwerker is always an easy stop.
See you in Groningen
Getting to welcome people to our own city for TakeRoot feels extra special.
So stay an extra night, walk without too much of a plan, eat somewhere cosy, come try on far too many boots with us and spend Saturday night listening to very good music.
We’ll see you in Groningen. 🤎
Love,
The Dandelie Sisters
